Build Sound Minds Derby and Derbyshire

Action for Children are very pleased to announce that, in partnership with Derbyshire Federation for Mental Health, we will be providing a new comprehensive early intervention offer to children and young people aged 0-17 who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.

Build Sound Minds Derby and Derbyshire has been commissioned Derbyshire and Derby City CCG and will therefore be able to accept referrals for all children and young people who are registered with a Derbyshire or Derby City CCG. 

Build Sound Minds will offer one-to-one support, group work, telephone support and a digital offer.  This will replace and expand on our Talk Time service which stopped accepting new referrals at the end of May.

We are in the process of recruiting a full team and aim to be fully operational by September. From 3rd June we will be accepting referrals for Build Sound Minds and also contacting families for all cases still on our Talk Time waiting list, to invite them to attend an appointment in order to determine how we can best support those children and young people via one-to-one sessions or our existing Talk Time workshops during the summer.

We provide specialist support for children and young people aged 0-17 who are

likely to present emotional and mental difficulties but do not meet the thresholds

for more specialist services. Through early intervention we are able to build

resilience and reduce the development of more serious emotional and mental

health issues, better preparing children and young people for the challenges of life.

Issues that children and young

people might be facing:

• Bereavement.

• Parental separation.

• Self-esteem.

• Bullying.

• Transitions.

• Sexuality.

• Managing behaviour at home/school.

 

We can support through:

• 1-1 direct work.

• Family support.

• Group interventions.

• Digital offers.

• Evidence based programmes

for children and parents.

Build Sound Minds Derbyshire and Derby City is in partnership

with Derbyshire Federation for Mental Health.

The original ‘Derbyshire Local Offer’ website was developed with the help of parents, carers and their children and has been well-used as a source of information about a wide range of relevant services and support since it was launched in 2014.

Since then, changes in the way people prefer to search for information and the advance of social media mean we have reviewed the site, again using feedback from the people who use it.

The site features clearly marked sections, an improved search function by area, service or subject with an ability to filter results and direct links to various organisations' social media accounts.

It also has other sections including information about free courses and training, lists of local support groups for parents, their other children, families and carers, details of leisure events, places to go and things to do plus support for professionals.

We would like to invite services to send information such as events, support groups, initiatives, marketplaces or anything else which would benefit families in Derbyshire by emailing local.offer@derbyshire.gov.uk with the following information:

• Please can all downloadable documents be sent as an attachment in the email, not as hyperlinks within a document.
